ISTITUTO COM PRENSIVO DI PONTASSIEVE

It’s a comprehensive school: there are about 1900 pupils in total.

The Institute’s different schools are located in different towns in the suburbs of Florence (Italy).

The students are from 3 to 14 years old.

The principal is Mrs Adriana Aprea.

There are 13 buildings situated in different towns and villages: 7 kindergartens; 5 primary schools and 1 secondary school.

Pontassieve lies on two rivers: Sieve and Arno. The Middle School is in Pontassieve and there are about 600 students. In the Secondary School Maria Maltoni there are 23 group classes, the pupils are 11,12 13 and 14 year-old teenagers who mostly live in the nearby.

The Middle School and Primary  teachers' team has specialized in students with special needs (SEN students) and students with disabilities. There are: science labs, extra afternoon foreign languages courses, sport activities, art labs.

The school offers extra afternoon music lessons through individual tuitions.

Each class is equipped with IWB, PCs and Internet access.

The school is highly ICT shaped since all the students work using laptops in class, web tools in their daily lessons in order to improve their digital skills. The staff and the students must learn about e-safety and online netiquette through  meetings with the local postal police, readings and so on. ICS Pontassieve uses new teaching technologies . STEM activities are highly developed. Robotics activities are increasingly used as well as coding activities.

The Institute has also a musical section:our students can learn to play a musical instrument out of five which represents our Institute. The lessons are defined as laboratories in the afternoon and the Music teachers coordinate the school orchestra.

Pontassieve is situated among two rivers, indeed there are many activities aimed at the local sustainability. The artistic reassessment of the territory is achieved thanks to the study of history and art through a widespread use of  CLIL methodology in the school. The contact person is an English language teacher. The Institute has no previous experience in Erasmus. The Principal, on the other hand, has a lot of experience in this field as she was the contact person for many Erasmus projects in the previous school.

The Secondary School’s Maths and Science teachers are particularly keen on ecology and environmental awareness; to of them are in the Erasmus team of the school and they coordinate the learning  activities in the mobilities.

The two Foreign Language teachers of the Erasmus Team deal with eTwinning projects, English and French language certifications, language exchanges abroad (France). They both teach foreign languages to the students in the classes.

Music teachers who joined the Erasmus team teach Music lessons  in the afternoons at school, they coordinate the school orchestra and they organize the welcoming concerts for the hosted Erasmus partners.

Two Art teachers are in the Erasmus team, too: they do art workshops, teach to draw and paint to the students, coordinate the logo contests, the Erasmus corner, they are keen on STEM activities.

PE teachers coordinate the sport activities in the Erasmus mobilities and  participate actively to the mobilities of the Institute’s  granted Erasmus projects.
